St. Paisios the Athonite Orthodox Christian Mission
A mission of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA)
The Mission
Founded in 2017 and reactivated in 2022, St. Paisios Orthodox Mission is an outreach ministry of the OCA-Diocese of the South. Presently, the mission is the only Eastern Orthodox presence in Deep East Texas. All Orthodox Christians, as well as anyone interested in inquiring about the Orthodox Faith, are invited to visit and join the budding mission's worship and communal life.
The Eastern Orthodox Church
The Eastern Orthodox Church is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Founded by the Apostles at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-11) and maintaining unchanged faith in the Holy Trinity for 2,000 years, the Orthodox Church uniquely offers the fullness of life in Christ.
Our Patron Saint
St. Paisios the Athonite (1924 - 1994) is one of the most venerated 20th century monastic elders of the Orthodox Church. Canonized in 2015, St. Paisios is a beacon of faith and an overflowing vessel of grace for the modern world. Venerable father of the Holy Mountain, pray to God for us!
Location
As a new missionary effort, St. Paisios currently gathers for worship and fellowship in the Education Center building at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 903 North Street, Nacogdoches TX 75961. The mission chapel and fellowship hall are located upstairs; attendees needing accessibility accommodations should contact the mission in advance.
Our Community
St. Paisios Mission is an Orthodox community planted by its mother parish, St. John of Damascus Orthodox Church in Tyler, TX. Membership at St. Paisios is convert-focused and all services are conducted in English.
